Konsumentenheterogenität und Struktur des Außenhandels. Eine Analyse im Kontext der Theorie des intra-industrielle Handels

Der internationale Austausch ähnlicher Produkte innerhalb einer Branche ist ein zentrales Merkmal der Globalisierung. Florian W. Bartholomae liefert zunächst eine fundierte Analyse der Determinanten und der historischen Entwicklung dieses sogenannten intra-industriellen Handels sowie der theoretischen Auseinandersetzung mit diesem Phänomen. Darauf aufbauend integriert er die Idee heterogener Konsumenten in ein Modell mit inter- und intra-industriellem Handel und kann daran aufzeigen, wie die Handelsstruktur vom Entwicklungsstand der beteiligten Länder abhängt.

Consumer Heterogeneity and Trade Pattern. An Analysis in the Context of the Theory of Intra-industry Trade

The international exchange of similar products within an industry is a central feature of globalization. Florian W. Bartholomae first provides a well-founded analysis of the determinants and the historical development of this so-called intra-industry trade. In a further step, he presents the theoretical discussion of this phenomenon in trade. Based on this, he develops a model that integrates the idea of ​​heterogeneous consumers in a framework with inter- and intra-industry trade. He then can show how the trade pattern depends on the development of the countries involved.

Symposium zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit in der Regionalentwicklung

Am 16. September 2014 fand an der Universität der Bundeswehr München ein Symposium zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit in der Regionalentwicklung in Europa statt. Im Rahmen dieser Tagung wurden an der Fakultät für Wirtschafts- und Organisationswissenschaften von internationalen Experten aktuelle regionalökonomische Probleme diskutiert und Lösungsansätze erörtert.

Im Rahmen des Symposium wurde aufgezeigt, dass sich viele Länder, Regionen und Städte in Europa ernsten Herausforderungen gegenübersehen: langfristige strukturelle Probleme als Folge der demographischen Entwicklung ebenso wie regionalpolitische Herausforderungen durch die Energiewende. Obwohl einige Regionen von diesen Herausforderungen in nur geringerem Ausmaß als andere betroffen sind, besteht oftmals doch schon erheblicher Handlungsbedarf. Dadurch kommt es zu einer Verschärfung der regionalen Disparitäten, der nur mit einer nachhaltigen regionalen Entwicklung begegnet werden kann.

Ökonomisches Wachstum bei demographischem Wandel

Europäische Städte sehen sich einem intensivierten Wettbewerb um Einwohner, Fachkräfte und Unternehmen gegenüber. Dieser Aspekt wurde während des Symposiums aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln diskutiert. Prof. Chang Woon Nam (ifo Institut) betonte am Beispiel ausgewählter Städte Ostdeutschlands und des Ruhrgebiets, dass der Bevölkerungsrückgang nicht zwangsläufig ökonomisches Wachstum verhindert. Prof. Dr. Daniela Constantin (Universität Bukarest) konnte demgegenüber den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg der rumänischen Metropolregion Bukarest aufzeigen, das in Osteuropa in vielen Bereichen mittlerweile einen Spitzenplatz einnimmt und Zielregion weltweiter Investitionen geworden ist. Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Peter Friedrich (Universität Tartu) schilderte in seinem theoretisch fundierten Vortrag eindrucksvoll, wie estnische und deutsche Regionen versuchen, Einwohner zu anzuziehen. Dabei zeigte er vor allem auf, dass sich viele Ansätze bislang nur auf die Attraktion von Investitionen konzentrieren und dabei das eigentlich Ziel – die Gewinnung von Einwohnern – vernachlässigen.

Regionalökonomische Implikationen der deutschen Energiewende

Deutsche Regionen sehen sich zurzeit in erheblichem Maße mit den Implikationen der Energiewende konfrontiert. In diesem Zusammenhang legte Dr. Tilmann Rave (ifo Institut) in seinem Vortrag über die regionale Verteilung von Windkraftanlagen in Deutschland eindrucksvoll dar, dass der politische Wille zur Energiewende in den einzelnen Bundesländern unterschiedlich stark ausgeprägt ist. Prof. Dr. Axel Schaffer (Universität der Bundeswehr München) schilderte schließlich, welche zunehmende Bedeutung die erneuerbaren Energien für die bayrischen Regionen und die hier ansässigen Landwirte einnimmt und warum diese vermehrt als Energiewirte agieren.

Das Symposium wurde von Dr. Alina Schoenberg und Dr. Florian Bartholomae (Universität der Bundeswehr München, Fakultät für Wirtschafts- und Organisationswissenschaften) veranstaltet und durchgeführt.

Symposium on sustainability in regional development

On September 16, 2014, a symposium on the topic of sustainability in regional development in Europe was held at the Bundeswehr University in Munich. At this symposium, the school of Economics and Management was the venue for international experts to discuss current regional economic problems and to consider possible solutions.

The symposium showed that many countries, regions, and cities in Europe are facing serious challenges: long-term structural problems as a result of demographic development as well as regional policy challenges due to the energy transition. Although some regions are only affected by these challenges to a lesser extent than others, in many cases there is already a considerable need for action. This leads to a worsening of regional disparities, which can only be countered by sustainable regional development.

Economic growth at a time of demographic change

European cities are facing intensified competition for inhabitants, skilled workers, and firms. This aspect was discussed from different perspectives during the symposium. Prof. Chang Woon Nam (ifo Institute) used the example of selected cities in eastern Germany and the Ruhr region to emphasize that population decline does not necessarily prevent economic growth. Prof. Dr. Daniela Constantin (University of Bucharest), on the other hand, highlighted the economic success of the Romanian metropolitan region of Bucharest, which now occupies a leading position in many areas of Eastern Europe and has become a target region for global investment. Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Peter Friedrich (University of Tartu) impressively described in his theoretically well-founded speech how Estonian and German regions try to attract inhabitants. In particular, he showed that many approaches so far have focused only on attracting investment, while neglecting the actual goal: winning residents.

Regional economic implications of the German energy transition

German regions are currently facing the implications of the energy transition to a considerable extent. In this context, Dr. Tilmann Rave (ifo Institute) impressively demonstrated in his presentation on the regional distribution of wind power plants in Germany that the political will for the energy turnaround varies from state to state. Finally, Prof. Dr. Axel Schaffer (Bundeswehr University Munich) described the increasing importance of renewable energies for the Bavarian regions and the local farmers and why they are increasingly acting as energy farmers.
